North West British Columbia – THREE communities !!!
I wanted to share a few memories from one of the most amazing and challenging CAAT trips I have ever been a part of. These trips are usually 3-5 days long, but for two of us, this trip was a full 12 days! Our volunteer members drive/fly/boat to remote communities to offer free veterinary services, including spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, deworming, microchips and education. Our work days are long and our meals are erratic, but we really do make a difference in these communities.
Northern BC has never been a travel destination for me, but it now holds such a special place in my heart. The community members in Fort St James, Tsay Keh Dene and Kwadacha (Ware) are amazing and very welcoming. As Fort St James was a return project, many volunteers knew us and we were even treated to mini massages to relax our overworked muscles! The two new communities were inviting and we were able to learn so much in a short period of time.
The scenery is out of this world and the animals are extremely friendly, especially the horses in Tsay Keh! We were invited to celebrate the birthday of a young volunteer, who wanted nothing more than to show us Blue Lake. It was gorgeous and definitely one of the highlights!
A big thank you to the incredible team members who made my first trip as team leader a success!! Also, big thank you to the communities who invited us and all of the volunteers who helped us.
