Lax Kw’alaams Clinic Complete
We finished the clinic in Lax Kw’alaams, B.C. a week ago Sunday. Our first few days were quiet ones, then Saturday turned into a typical CAAT clinic kind of day with lots of surgeries and vaccine appointments. In total, we were able to see 49 patients for spay and neuter, and 80 patients were vaccinated.
Lax Kw’alaams is a beautiful community. It’s a short trip from Prince Rupert, but there’s something really special about the scenery in this community. The ferry itself highlights the mountains meeting the ocean as we made our way through the misty landscapes by water. This community is a hot spot for eagles, which are easily seen soaring above the ferry and throughout the community.
This year the team was able to explore the community a bit further thanks to the use of the Health Centre’s van. We had a chance to walk around their island on the boardwalk that tiptoes through the moss covered trees. We savoured the views of the surrounding mountains, including a view of Alaska not so far in the distance. Just beautiful.
We are happy to wrap up a successful clinic yet again this year. It was extra special when we we able to see two of our patients from last year – Rusty and Jack. Rusty is now quite an old man and his age has caught up with him. Much more docile this year, he even seemed happy to have us groom him.
Signing off on the last trip of the year, what a great 2019 it has been.
