Day 1 Lax Kw’alaams
Today we hosted our clinic in the community of Lax Kw’alaams. The Elder’s Lodge became a working clinic with intake stations, prep stations, surgery and recovery. It was pretty impressive to see a new team working as a well oiled machine within an hour of the clinic starting. We were really lucky to have a local nurse volunteer, Eva, help us out, as well as Amy and Rachel from the BCSPCA. We couldn’t have been luckier to have them for the day, before we knew it our surgery tables were full and our recovering patients were needing more people to cuddle them awake.
We were able to see a total of 33 patients for spay and neuter today, as well as one health exam with vaccines. The local school was really involved in the day, sending in 6 school groups to tour our clinic and hang out to ask all about our procedures and what we were up to. Thanks to Kristen the teacher for arranging this great student experience.
In order to make this trip a success we’ve called on all sorts of volunteers to help out. We’ve had the health unit bring us containers for sharps and ice packs, we’ve had community members pick up our team and drive us all over the place, cook us beautiful meals, deliver blankets… and the list continues. We even have some of our clients from today coming back as volunteers tomorrow. How lucky are we?
These field clinics just wouldn’t happen without the help of our many CAAT and community volunteers. Thanks to you, volunteers!
