CAAT in Botswana

Although about 90% of CAAT’s work is focused on Canada, we do some international work– we love dogs and cats everywhere! For international projects, we work with established programs and provide input, field hospital experience and personnel.

One of our favourite international programs is with MAWS. The Maun Animal Welfare Society is a non-profit organization in northern Botswana whose objective is to provide sterilization, vaccination and basic veterinary services to control dog and cat overpopulation and the spread of diseases like rabies and canine distemper throughout the environmentally sensitive and ecologically diverse Okavango Delta area. CAAT first partnered with MAWS in 2011 and has continued to join their project in Botswana each year to provide consistency of fieldwork and veterinary support.

2016 is no exception – CAAT member and director Dr. Rob Spooner is in Botswana working with MAWS right now! Rob shared some thoughts after meeting one of his patients at the 2016 project:

One of the reasons I do volunteer work- the opportunity to help little buggers like this. Or at least give them a chance. And as pathetic as she looks, she’s a spunky little girl with quite a waggy tail.
